Preventing Cavities and Gum Disease

Like you, preventing dental disease and treatment of dental disease is the highest priority.  Having your teeth cleaned on a regular basis, will decrease the risk of cavities and gum or periodontal disease.

If you haven’t been to the dentist in a while, it’s okay.  The best time to see a dentist is right away.  This is the time to schedule an exam so that you can help prevent many common dental issues that can negatively impact your overall quality of life.

Pregnancy, diabetes and many other health conditions can put you at greater risk for dental problems.  Scheduling an appointment with your dental professionals in Cottonwood Arizona, before you are having dental discomfort is recommended by dentists and medical doctors alike.  Many insurance companies recognize the need for increased prevention for patients with medical conditions that can contribute to dental health.

You are the most important part of your dental team.  We work with you to keep you informed of the most current methods to prevent cavities, gum disease and other dental concerns from home.  We see you approximately twice a year for dental check-ups and cleanings.  But, you are with yourself 363 days a year.  We love to empower you to take charge of your dental health.

Preventing Broken Teeth and TMJ damage

Many of us grind our teeth at night.  This common habit and stress releasing behavior, can damage teeth and your temporomandibular joint (TMJ).  Your dental hygienist and dentist are trained to notice the early signs and symptoms of teeth grinding.

They can help fit you for a night guard to help prevent damage to your teeth and TMJ.  Save yourself the unexpected surprise of a broken tooth.  Get rid of that unwanted headache you awake with each morning by being assessed for a custom nightguard.

Dental Sealants

Dental sealants are a preventative service that both adults and children can benefit from. Sealants are used to protect the biting surface of back molars from dental decay. They are placed in teeth that do not have any decay and do not have any existing fillings. Children are good candidates for sealants as the back molars erupt at approximately ages 6 and 12. However, adults are also good candidates. If you have back molars, that are not filled and do not have decay, ask your hygienist about sealants.

The procedure is simple. The tooth surface is cleaned with a course pumice, then lightly etched to help the sealant bond into the grooves of the tooth. The sealant is applied into the grooves and cured with a light. The steep pits and grooves of the tooth are now easier to clean with your tooth brush bristles and decay can be prevented. Sealants are an additional layer of protection from dental disease.
