Root Canal Treatments Near Your

If you think you need a root canal, you are probably right.  Many dental emergencies result in treatment for an infected tooth.  Root canals are not always the best treatment choice, but when you have a tooth that can be saved by a root canal, we can help.  People don’t want to lose their teeth and neither do we.

Although root canals are a very common procedure, if you are experiencing dental pain/discomfort a root canal can be the procedure to help eliminate the pain.  Often, patients think the root canal is the cause of discomfort.

Actually, the infected tooth is the pain source and it takes some time for the infection to fully resolve. Managing dental discomfort is important to you and it is important to us.  At Cottonwood Smiles, your dentist is skilled with pain control providing you the most comfortable path to dental health.

If a dentist is discussing root canal treatment with you, it is most likely the innermost part of your tooth is infected, which is causing the pain.  Often, you are not able to see the infection or the cause of the infection, called an abscess.   If the abscess spreads to other parts of your body, your problems will significantly increase, so don’t put off treatment.

What to Expect from a Root Canal Treatment?

Root canals treatments take several steps to complete.  It is important all the infected inners tissue in a tooth is complete cleaned and given time to resolve.  Often antibiotics are taken while you are undergoing a root canal therapy.   When the dentist has determined the tooth is clean and free from infection the space where the infected tissue was, is filled with a material your body accepts.  The dentist cannot leave the tooth without the internal space being properly filled and sealed.

Teeth that have had root canal therapy are left without a blood supply to keep the tooth pliable while chewing.  To strengthen the tooth, a crown must be placed on the tooth. You can have a crown without a root canal, but you cannot have a root canal without a crown.  This final step of the to restore your tooth to full health must be completed according to your dentists’ recommendation.

Be sure to follow any instructions while waiting for your permanent crown to prevent reinfection and be sure to visit Cottonwood Smiles for cleanings and exams as prescribed by your doctor or hygienist. Together, with your friendly dental team in Cottonwood, you can prevent the need for future root canal treatment, and keep your teeth looking and feeling their best.
